Basic Introduction of Paraplegic Center, Hayatabad, Govt of
NWFP
Paraplegic Center Hayatabad, is the only
state of the art facility, providing free of cost Medical/Surgical
and Nursing Care, along with Physical, Occupational, Vocational
and Psycho-social rehabilitation services to patients with
Spinal cord injuries from all over the country as well as
Afghanistan.
Established by ICRC in 1984, it is now taken over by the Department
of Health Govt of NWFP, working as an autonomous body, under
the Chairmanship of Mr.Abdullah (Former C.S NWFP) serving
more than 65 patients (upto 20% Afghan Nationals) at a time,
without any cost to them.
The Government of NWFP is funding this organization generously
however the needs of our clients is unlimited and can’t
be fulfilled only with the Governmental resources.
With the mean age of 25 years, more then 90% of our patients
live below the poverty line and more then 80% of them are
the only bread winners of their families, it’s unimaginable
for one to live a normal life with a broken back or neck in
a society like ours.
Paraplegic Center, is the only “ Ray of hope”
for people with the worst disability of all, where our goal
is to help them, achieve maximum possible independence in
all basic activities of daily life and beyond. Our Vocational
training and Psycho-Social rehabilitation program, enable
them to face life with all its harsh realities and to become
a productive member of their family and society at large.
